You had me at Meow!

This post is about 6 days late! I was going to update my blog about my Valentines day with my boyfriend Felix! We have been dating for about three years. He currently lives in Houston and is working for BP as a graduate Financial Analyst and I am trying to finish up my 3 majors here in Tempe, Arizona. Felix flew me out for Valentines weekend and we had a great time together. He planned a picnic and had some cute champagne with heart balloons all over it. He also got me a cat calendar, which we freaking awesome!!! Now I have 365 days of cats!!

Versace Atelier Collection Spring 2013

I am in love with Versace’s Spring/Summer 2013 ad campaign and clothing designs. I recently ordered a years supply of Harper’s Bazaar magazines for a total of $5 on Groupon and have been pouring over the pages! Of all of the ad campaigns in the magazine, the Versace campaign stood out. The lighting, the clothing, and the models all came together to create pure works of art:

Most Spring ad campaigns focused on brighter lighting and traditional spring coloring. This campaign was masked in grays and decadent shades of blue. The models look powerful and desirable in these photos, empowering the viewer with their strong, Italian-like wonder. It’s a dream remnant of Italy’s past, glamour and power; “The Spring Summer 2013 Atelier Versace collection explores the relationships between solid structures and ethereal fabrics. Donatella Versace took inspiration in the architectural splendor of glass domes, where the fragility of glass contrasts with the strength of iron and steel beams, challenging the idea of modern to build ephemeral vaults and roof lights.”

Here are some of my favorites from the runway:

What do you think about Versace’s Atelier collection?

I Went to the Woods

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

– Thoreau

Transcendentalism was always my favorite topic in English Literature. The idea of rising above the banalities of everyday life and achieving a greater realization of existence, to me, was grandiose. Greater realities relating directly to the soul, inspired by nature, God and man juxtaposing in a trifecta to rise above common and generic living. Reading these texts provoked my soul to weep with the intangible hope of greater realities.

It’s so easy to get bogged down in life by the things that do not matter, and it’s difficult at times to see truth in life and rise above the mediocrity. I often think how fantastic it would be to escape to the woods and live life. Being inspired completely and totally by nature’s titanic forces, becoming one with the Earth in mind, body and soul. Being cut off from the world, being released from the bonds of constant requirements and noises that distract us from true reality and separating entirely from technology and petty pressures.

Right now, I’m not ready to become a hermit and live in the woods. This is a fantasy, ultimately fleeting, but decadent nonetheless. I miss reading the great classics that once infused hope within my being. The following is a list of books I plan to read in order to regain this sense of inspiration and hope that I once had. These texts may not propel me into nature, as Huxley stated of the great classics, “there comes a time when one asks even of Shakespeare, even of Beethoven, is this all?” Despite these musings, these texts will prove to be a catalyst for creativity and inspiration for positivity.

Let Them Eat Cake

“Never let anything distract you from winning”

To each person “winning” encompasses a different meaning and a different set of goals and possibilities. For instance, to Charlie Sheen, “winning” is being a total bitchin rock star from Mars. Although my goals are not as lofty as Charlie Sheens, as I am a mere mortal, I believe my experiences and goals are worth highlighting.

I want to get a kick-ass job that is highly prestigious.  I also want to have a rockin body that will make me feel confident and powerful. I am wildly aware of how generic an unoriginal these goals are, but to me, having these equates to being on top and being the best and ultimately being a winner.

Distraction from my goals have surfaced and I want to get my life back on track. This blog is about empowering myself as well as others to lead a healthy lifestyle both inside and out and staying young in mind, body and spirit. By that, I mean healthy eating and healthy exercise. Not only that, but developing a more positive outlook on life and becoming more intellectually aware. I want to share my experiences as well as experiences moving forward.

I know I can be on top of the world and in the fictitious words of Marie Antoinette, “Let them eat cake!” I will go forward and live a happy life.
